Fireside chat with Ed Rosenthal hosted by Columbia Alumni
Event on 2017-04-27 18:30:00
Join us for a fireside chat exploring the history and future of marijuana. This conversation is especially relevant as California has recently passed a law allowing recreational marijuana. Ed Rosenthal Bio (Speaker) Ed Rosenthal is recognized worldwide as a leading authority on marijuana. In his more than 40 years as the “Guru of Ganja,” he has written or edited more than a dozen books about marijuana cultivation and social policy that cumulatively have sold more than one million copies. One of his books on marijuana cultivation is the only book of its type to be reviewed by The New York Times. As a result of his studies, he developed Ed Rosenthal’s Zero Tolerance®, a line of pest control products designed to eliminate many garden problems. Currently Rosenthal consults for commercial growers throughout the world. He is also on the faculty of Oaksterdam University, the leading trade school for the cannabis industry. His classes teach pupils techniques to improve the yield and efficiency of their gardens. Beyond the garden, Rosenthal views marijuana law as a crucial social issue and has been active in promoting and developing policies of civil regulation. His Federal trial for cultivation (2003) shifted public opinion in favor of state medical laws with the disclosure that the jury was not allowed to hear that he was deputized by the City of Oakland to provide marijuana for patients. Rosenthal serves as the Executive Director of Green Aid: The Medical Marijuana Legal Defense and Education Fund. Green Aid has exposed the excessive use of SWAT- team force in marijuana arrests and defended the rights of cannabis patients to transport their medicine in airports.
